A Message from Patrick Galvin, Chief Galvanizer, Galvin Communications & Buzz Camp Presenter
The weak economy has caused many remodeling companies in oregon to see a dramatic drop in sales over the past year. A common lament from remodelers is that they are not getting as many jobs because consumers are holding back on projects. Faced with shrinking demand, many in the remodeling industry have cut back on their marketing efforts because they feel that they can't afford any additional spending.
Sadly, many remodelers believe that traditional advertising, which can be quite costly, is the best way to market their companies. When advertising campaigns fail, people assume that there is insufficient demand for their products or services. In reality, they are experiencing a common phenomenon: advertising is often the most expensive and least effective method to grow a business.
Consumers are drowning in a flood of advertising which causes them to tune it out. Companies will spend nearly $300 billion in advertising in 2009 or about $1,000 per American. The typical American is exposed to 5,000 commercial messages a week through the Internet, radio, television, direct mail, telemarketing, newspapers, magazines, billboards, etc.
When was the last time you purchased a product or service because of advertising? In contrast, can you recall picking a movie, choosing a restaurant, buying a product, or selecting a service provider because you read a favorable online review, saw a story in the press, or got a recommendation from a friend? Your answers to these questions give you the best reason to use buzz marketing techniques to grow your business.
When I see prosperous remodeling companies, I notice that their success is based on offering quality services and finding creative ways to get their customers talking about them to friends and colleagues. By attending Buzz Camp, you’ll learn how to tap into the power of buzz and grow your business on a tight budget.

Buzz Camp is a four-hour interactive workshop designed to provide remodelers with highly effective yet inexpensive word of mouth marketing tools and techniques to grow their companies. As a participant, you will learn how to:
Patrick Galvin has long record of success in buzz marketing. As a college sophomore, he broke the Guinness World Record for hammock swinging to promote his parents’ three Bay Area hammock stores. He declared that he was going to make hammock swinging an Olympic event. While he failed in his attempt to create a new sport, his record resulted in widespread press coverage that increased hammock sales and convinced Patrick that buzz is the best way to build a business.
After graduating from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Patrick worked for various politicians and political campaigns and used his marketing skills to raise over one million dollars for a non-profit organization in less than one year.
Fascinated to learn why people buy, Patrick attended the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management and graduated with an MBA in marketing. His fluency in Spanish and Portuguese led to a regional sales manager position. In three years, he built a sales network in Canada and Latin America and created marketing programs for both regions. Seeking a greater challenge, he became the president of his family’s retail furniture company and quadrupled sales in five years using creative marketing techniques.
In 2002, Patrick co-founded Galvin Communications to help companies grow through buzz rather than expensive advertising. As the chief galvanizer of Galvin Communications, he has helped hundreds of companies including the Oregon Petroleum Association and GMAC Real Estate, tap into the power of buzz marketing to meet their growth objectives.
Patrick is an accomplished presenter. He is a past president of the Oregon Chapter of the National Speakers Association and has addressed thousands of people throughout the United States and Canada on buzz marketing. Since 2005, he has written regularly on the good, the bad, and the ugly of buzz marketing on his Buzz Builder blog and in his monthly Buzz Bulletin e-newsletter.
